FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas softball team (7-1) has increased its national ranking to No. 23 in the latest NFCA Coaches and ESPN.com/USA Softball polls released on Tuesday (Feb. 18).

The Razorbacks were ranked No. 24 by both organizations last week and increased one position after an undefeated weekend at the FGCU Invitational.

In the Softball America Poll, the Razorbacks are ranked No. 21. Arkansas currently leads the SEC and is third nationally in batting average (.376).

Junior catcher Kayla Green earned SEC Player of the Week recognition for the first time in her career last week. She hit .667 (6-for-9), collected five RBIs, caught two runners attempting to steal and commanded a pitching staff which allowed only five runs.

The award is the first weekly honor for the Razorbacks this year and is the sixth SEC Player of the Week won by an Arkansas player during head coach Courtney Deifel’s tenure.

Green is only the second Razorback catcher to win the award as Jennifer Cirigliano was the program’s first in 1997.

The Hogs host the Razorback Invitational at Bogle Park for their first home competition of the season. Boston University serves as the opposition for the home opener at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20.
