Executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, the interactive series features narration by Millie Bobby Brown, Jessica Chastain, and Patti Smith.
After a successful festival tour culminating in a Grand Jury Prize for Best Virtual Reality Immersive Story, as well as the first seven-figure VR acquisition at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, SPHERES is now available for purchase on the Oculus Rift.
Executive produced by Protozoa Pictures’ Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel and produced by Jess Engel, Arnaud Colinart, and Dylan Golden, SPHERES is a three-part interactive VR adventure guiding users through a series of breathtaking cosmic spectacles; all of which set to an intense original soundtrack composed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of SURVIVE (Stranger Things), with sound design by Craig Henighan.
SPHERES was the first piece of VR content to be screened at the Telluride Film Festival, as well as the first VR experience to sell at a prominent film festival for seven figures earlier this year.
“It’s been a dream to collaborate with this team to bring SPHERES to life,” said writer and director Eliza McNitt, in an official release. “This experience makes the invisible Universe visible as you become the cosmos. I’m thrilled to release SPHERES on the Oculus Rift and transport you to worlds beyond our own.”
Narrated by Millie Bobby Brown, Chapter I: Chorus of the Cosmos features our own solar system as a musical instrument, turning the universe into an intergalactic audio/visual spectacle. Chapter II: Songs of Spacetime, narrated by Jessica Chastain, takes users straight into the belly of a mysterious black hole to interact with gravitational waves. Chapter III: Pale Blue Dot, narrated by Patti Smith, explores the most important event in the history of the known universe: The Big Bang. “Travel from the edge of the cosmos to uncover the strangest sound of all.
“We at CityLights are excited to share SPHERES on the Oculus Rift platform after the amazing feedback it’s received since it first premiered at Sundance,” said Joel Newton with CityLights. “It’s just the beginning and we’re now looking forward to what’s to come in NYC this coming January at its first residency.”
All three chapters of SPHERES are available now for purchase on the Oculus Store for $9.99.
Presented by Oculus Studios and Protozoa Pictures, SPHERES was directed by Eliza McNitt with support from production companies AtlasV, Crimes of Curiosity, Novelab, as well as Oculus and Intel.
